Opening of the habilitation process
After receipt of the application and the necessary documents, the admissions committee for habilitations decides on the opening of the habilitation process and sets up a habilitation committee. The admissions committee for habilitations checks whether the formal requirements have been met and, if the examination is positive, opens the habilitation process. The decision of the admissions committee will be communicated to the faculty council at its next meeting. The dean will inform you of the decision of the admissions committee in writing. A negative decision must be justified and provided with information on legal remedies. After the decision, files can be inspected within one year upon written application to the admissions committee.
After the opening of the habilitation process, the habilitation committee meets. It evaluates the written habilitation achievement and the oral achievement in the habilitation colloquium. You can find further information on this in the habilitation regulations of the Faculty of Psychology and Movement Science of the University of Hamburg dated December 11, 2019 under § 3.
Habilitation achievements
The qualification for independent scientific research and teaching according to § 1 is proven by the habilitation achievements. These consist of a written habilitation and the habilitation colloquium.
The written habilitation achievement should be characterized by the originality of the research results and / or research methods as well as by compliance with high scientific standards and contribute to the progress of knowledge in the respective subject.
As a rule, the written habilitation achievement must go significantly beyond the dissertation and demonstrate the independence of the academic achievement.
You can find further information on this in the habilitation regulations of the Faculty of Psychology and Movement Science of the University of Hamburg dated December 11, 2019 under § 1 and 2.
Colloquium
If the written habilitation achievement has been accepted, the dean sets the date of the lecture in accordance with § 2 paragraph 6 in agreement with the chairperson of the habilitation committee and the habilitation candidate. He or she invites the members of the habilitation committee and the professors responsible for the subject. The other members of the faculty will be informed of the time and place of the lecture by means of an electronic circular.
The colloquium consists of a 45-minute lecture by the post-doctoral candidate and a subsequent discussion of at least 30 minutes. The colloquium is intended to give the habilitation committee the opportunity to form an opinion as to whether the habilitation candidate is sufficiently familiar with the status and development of the main problems in his or her subject area beyond the narrower subject of the written habilitation. You can find further information on this in the habilitation regulations of the Faculty of Psychology and Movement Science of the University of Hamburg dated December 11, 2019 under § 8.
Last steps (Publication, Certificate)
With a positive decision about the habilitation colloquium, the habilitation process is concluded. The post-doctoral candidate receives a certificate signed by the dean and the president and provided with the seal of the Faculty of Psychology and Human Movement Science. It indicates the research area in which the post-doctoral qualification was achieved.
After completion of the process, two copies of the submitted scientific work or the habilitation theses will be placed in the relevant department library of the faculty and published. Another seven copies will also be made available to the Hamburg State and University Library for publication.
