Performance Studies (M.A.)
In the 2019/2020 winter semester, students were admitted to the Performance Studies master’s course for the last time. The courses for the degree program will be discontinued in winter semester 2023/2024.
The Master's programme in Performance Studies is a scientific and artistic course. It combines cultural and social science reflection, artistic practice and aesthetic education in dance and theater, choreography and production. The study concept is based on a broad concept of performance, which encompasses theatrical practices and poetics in social, cultural, political and artistic fields. The course focuses on the critical-political and theoretical-practical examination of performances and productions in the scenic arts, in popular culture, in the media and in everyday life. The focus is on those performative practices in which body and movement are the object, means or agent of aesthetic discussion.
The aim of the course is to understand performance concepts from social, cultural and educational theory and aesthetic perspectives and at the same time to acquire skills for a reflected artistic practice and mediation.
The two-year course is modular and leads to the Master of Arts in Performance Studies. Participation in the course requires a completed university degree or a comparable degree as well as a passed aptitude test.
